FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • What is a BioLoo integrated toilet system?

An integrated toilet system is a type of sanitation solution that collects sewage and urine below ground and treats it using advanced wastewater treatment technology. This system is ideal for mining communities and other remote locations where traditional sanitation solutions are not feasible.

  • How does a BioLoo toilet system work?

A BioLoo system collects black and grey water which then flush toilets in an anaerobic zone, which allows for nutrient reduction. As the level of sewage increases, the effluent is pumped to a bioreactor where air is introduced via diffusers in an aerobic process known as a moving bed bio reactor (MBBR). The treated wastewater then passes through a membrane to filter out impurities before being sterilised using ozone.

  • What are the benefits of a BioLoo toilet system?

BioLoo toilet systems offer many benefits, including water conservation, wastewater treatment, nutrient reduction, odor control, environmental protection, and long-term sustainability. Our system is designed to be long-lasting and requires minimal maintenance, ensuring a sustainable solution that will last for years to come.

  • Can the treated water be reused?

The discharged water is safe to handle but is not for drinking. It can be used for non-potable applications such as dust suppression, irrigation and toilet flushing, reducing the need for fresh water and promoting responsible wastewater management.

  • What is the expected lifespan of a BioLoo system?

Our toilet systems are designed to be long-lasting and require minimal maintenance, with an expected lifespan of up to 20 years.

  • How is BioLoo different from traditional sanitation systems?

Traditional sanitation solutions, such as bucket systems, are often smelly, unhygienic, and environmentally harmful. BioLoo's advanced wastewater treatment technology eliminates odor and promotes responsible wastewater management, offering a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution.
